After many, many years of looking after the beautiful garden area on Jerusalem Island, the volunteers have decided to lay down their spades. In February the Parish Council hosted an afternoon tea to thank the Jerusalem Island Volunteers and the amazing gardeners who look after the flower beds in the cemetery.
We are grateful for the time and dedication taken to keep these areas looking fantastic for everyone to enjoy. We have four new volunteers starting and wish them well as they take on their new tasks.
Exciting New Summer Event

There will be two films shown; entry will be free for all so bring your chairs and picnic blankets and enjoy the movies. Watch out for further details on our website and Facebook page.
The Annual Street Market will also be held on 28th June on High Street.

A one-form entry new primary school, with places for 210 children, is expected to be built on land north of Willow Road, as part of the Bloor Homes development. Planning permission has already been granted for this site. To date, developments totalling 486 houses have been granted planning permission.
We have been assured that an Education Delivery Strategy has been developed by Leicestershire County Council, Charnwood Borough Council and the developers to ensure that the school has the land to be built upon and the funding available through a Section 106 agreement to construct it. The strategy was agreed in 2022 and is based on the delivery of f ve housing developments located on Melton Road North and South, Melton Road, Willow Road and Cotes Road. All the developers involved have agreed to the provision of 1.1 hectares of land for the school and the funding required to meet the circa £10 million cost of constructing the school. The delivery of the school will be dependent on how quickly the houses are built and occupied by families moving into them.
The Parish Council would like to see the school built in tandem with the housing developments so that new residents to the village can join the school soon after. The school should take just under a year to construct; contractors will aim to start in the summer of 2027 and complete the project ready for the start of the 2028/29 academic year.
