The streets and pavements in early autumn in Barrow were dominated by CityFibre and Openreach installing ifbre cables ready for an upheaval to our land telephones and internet services.
What’s it all been about?
How confusing! Let’s explore them in a bit more detail.

There is a problem with broadband if there is a power cut.
Your telephone WON’T WORK IN A POWER CUT (whereas a mobile phone that is charged up WILL WORK).
Your provider must offer you a solution to make sure you can contact the emergency services when a power cut occurs.
If you use a care-alarm such as a pendant or wrist alarm or have a house security alarm service that has been plugged into the old telephone system, you need to tell your provider.
It might need to be replaced or adjusted to continue working.
Your provider should tell you what you need to do if you have one of these devices.
Watch out for cold calling and postal communication by marketing representatives trying to entice you to switch contracts to a different provider. You should check carefully what is being communicated and be careful not to confuse vital instructions with marketing material.
Don’t give away bank details.
