Scarecrows. The word possibly conjures up visions of a turnip head, old coat, floppy hat and detached wellies. But in Barrow upon Soar we like to buck the trend! The theme of this year’s Scarecrow Festival will be:

A Night at the Movies!

This year you are all invited to design and create a scarecrow that is inspired by your favourite movie.

Now – true confessions time – my favourite movie is Shrek and my ultimate favourite character is Donkey, but that tells you a lot about my age (sadly). Your favourite movie might be a far more recent film or a far older one (hands up for Brief Encounter or Gone with the Wind!)

All you need to do is pick up an entry form from Sharon or Nic at Taylors Florist on the High Street (available from 29th June 2026) and return it to Taylors no later than 15th August 2026 for inclusion on the village map. This will pinpoint where the scarecrows will be displayed and more importantly where refreshments can be enjoyed, as well as provide an opportunity to nominate your choice for the People’s Choice scarecrow. Then create your scarecrow and display it on 12th and 13th September 2026.

All scarecrows will be photographed and included in a photo-montage on the BUSCA website. If you want to be in the photo let Frankie, Rhia or me know via your entry form!

The maps will be on sale from Taylors Florists, High Street Barrow upon Soar from 12.00 on Thursday 10th September.
